Client Printers Fail to Autocreate with Event ID 1116 AddPrinter failed with Status 0×6be

When you get the error “Event ID 1116 AddPrinter failed with Status 0×6be” this error has something to do with the RCP / TCP connection on the server

Symptoms

You might get the error Event ID 1116 AddPrinter failed with Status 0×6be in the presentation servers eventvwr. This event will be logged to the eventvwr when a clients printer fails to autocreate. You may even get the error “Reason: AddPrinter() failed with status 0×6BE” in the eventvwr

Converting the hexadecimal 6BE to decimal and using net helpmsg provides the following information:

The remote procedure call (RPC) failed.

Systems Affected

The citrix systems that are affected by the error “Event ID 1116 AddPrinter failed with Status 0×6be” are, Citrix Presentation Server Version 3.0 3.5 4.0 4.5 Xen App 4.0, 4.5, 5.0.  I guess metaframe XP but I have not used this version of citrix

This problem occurs because an RPC can re-use a TCP connection that the server has already asked to close. When the RPC does this, the server responds by using an ACK/RST packet. Additionally, the server causes the 0×6BE exception to occur on the client computer.

Resolution For – Event ID 1116 AddPrinter failed with Status 0×6be

There is a hotfix available from the microsoft website, this hotfix is only intended to be installed if you are getting this error. To get the hotfix go to 913957. to download and install the patch

How To Check If The Problem Is Resolved “Event ID 1116 AddPrinter failed with Status 0×6be”

To test if this issue is resolved log on to the citrix server using an ICA connection and make sure that the default printer on your local computer has been mapped within the citrix window.
